We will explore different types of context clues, such as definitions, synonyms, and antonyms. By the end of the session, you will feel more confident understanding new vocabulary while reading without always using a dictionary.

1: The student will play a guessing game and act like a detective to guess the meaning of words using context clues such as definition, synonym, or antonym.

Definition context clues

This type of clue is when the meaning of the word is directly stated in the text.

Synonym context clues

In this type of context clue, there is another word in the text has a similar meaning to the unknown word.

Antonym context clues

This context clue is when there is another word in the text that means means the opposite as the unfamiliar word.
