Description

In this advanced level lesson, the students will discuss real-life dilemmas and learn how to explain their reasoning in complex situations. They will practice weighing choices, identifying values, and expressing clear arguments. The goal is to help learners develop strong critical thinking skills while improving their advanced speaking fluency in challenging topics.

Session Activities

Question 1: Who taught you your sense of right and wrong when you were growing up?

Question 2: Do you usually follow rules strictly or bend them when necessary?

Question 3: Do you think helping many people can sometimes justify breaking rules?

Question 1: Trolley Problem: Would you pull a lever to save five people even if one person dies instead?

Question 2: Robbin’ Hood: If someone steals money but gives it to an orphanage to help children, would you report them or stay quiet?

Question 3: Heinz Dilemma: Heinz wife is dying, and the only medicine that can save her is overpriced because the pharmacist is charging much more than it costs. Heinz can’t afford it. Should he steal the medicine to save his wife? Why or why not?

Question 4: Dream Job Lie: Would you lie on your résumé to get a job that could change your life and help others? Or would you stay honest?

Question 5: Family vs. Humanity Dilemma: A house is on fire, and you can only save one person: your sibling or a scientist who is close to discovering a cure for all cancer. Who do you save, and why?

Question 6: All-Powerful AI: Would you allow a perfect, fair AI to make all decisions for society even if humans lose control?

Question 7: Do intentions matter more than results when judging decisions?
