How Insects Became Beautiful

Conversation - B2-C1 | Advance Level

Description

In this lesson we use Hoefnagel’s insect art as a starting point to discuss how images shape knowledge, how aesthetic choices influence science, and how cultural attitudes toward insects have changed. Students will practise advanced vocabulary, give opinions, compare art vs. science perspectives, and debate how visual representation affects what we notice and value.
You will:
Discuss the role of images in science and culture

Use vocabulary for art, observation, and natural history

Compare historical and modern ways of showing nature

Practice giving reasoned opinions and supporting them with examples
