Common mistakes when speaking English

Conversation - B1-B2 | Intermediate Level

Description

In this session, we will be exploring some of the most common mistakes that learners make when speaking English. The goal is not to point fingers or make anyone feel uncomfortable—in fact, quite the opposite. Everyone who is learning a new language makes mistakes, and those mistakes are actually a very natural and important part of the learning process. We want to create a safe, friendly environment where we can recognize these challenges, understand why they happen, and learn practical ways to improve.

Some of the areas we will cover include pronunciation slip-ups, grammar mix-ups, and vocabulary confusion. For example, many learners struggle with verb tenses, articles (“a,” “an,” “the”), prepositions, or the difference between similar-sounding words. Others may find it difficult to stress words correctly or use natural intonation. These are all very common issues, and you are not alone if you face them.

During our conversation, we will look at real examples, practice corrections, and share tips for avoiding these mistakes in the future. You will also get the chance to ask questions and participate in short activities designed to boost your confidence in speaking.

Most importantly, please remember that this is a supportive space. Mistakes are not something to be embarrassed about—they are stepping stones to progress. Nobody will be mocked, laughed at, or judged here. Instead, we will encourage each other, share strategies, and celebrate the improvements we make along the way.

By the end of the session, you should feel more aware of the typical challenges English learners face, and more prepared to handle them. Our aim is not perfection, but progress—helping you speak with greater clarity, confidence, and ease.
